I started reading this at page 1, 2013......got some good laughs through page 5 or 6...........Everyone wants to live large with short money....it's rather funny.....I'll read more as time permits.......Seams few knew how to purchase a winch, rope has since changed........picture yourself as then 9th guy on the trail with 2 guys with HF winches in front of you......your day SUCKS!!
Last time out I had to use mine to winch around 2 Rubicon jeeps and a d2 to keep a d1 from going off the mountain, they all had winch bumpers, no winches
This just reinforces my point to the wife about all the recovery gear $ I have spent
I have 2 versions of this winch ,both have always worked flawlessly
For my use the winch has always worked fine, all winches fail eventually by abuse, lack of maintenance or just wore the hell out
I use mine for recovery not to drag myself up a cliff

Dusting off this thread as there is a Badland 12000 lb winch for sale $299.99 (with coupon) from Harbor Freight.
Any updated feedback on these winches??
I typically purchase items from Harbor Freight with the full anticipation they will break after a couple of uses.
So, do I roll the dice on this winch or save up and get a different brand?

Friend of mine bought their 9k lb winch 2 or 3 years ago for his jeep.
Has used it alot and never had a problem.
I got the HF flyer yesterday and saw the 12k lb winch.
I would've been on my way to get too, had it not been for my engine rebuild eating all my money.

I went with their 9k winch as the 20% off coupon applied and it saved me some some moolah. It has been used about six times now over the past three months. The first time it completely saved my *** when I slid off the side of a hill, and the rest of the times it has gotten me unstuck when I got too cocky on obstacles (A.K.A. Well that Damned Jeep did it Syndrome). While I did end up replacing the cable with synthetic line the winch itself has held up fine so far.
