Is the ZF pan plastic or metal? I've heard the BMW pan can be used (plastic) and the LR pan is hard to get. The pan must be replaced because the filter is integrated to the pan.
I'm also told the LR ZF pan is plastic. Is that true? Basically I'm told all ZF pans atlre plastic and the Disco doesn't need the metal ZF pan because of the rock guard/skid plate already protects the transmission.
Am I being lied to by the local mechanic? Or does he just not know anything - and should I run away from this shop?

I think I just found the answer to my own question, so I'm adding it here. The pan might be aluminum per the ZF oil change kit document. There are two columns for the pan and column with circle 1 is aluminum and column with circle 2 is plastic.
This explains why the Land Rover pan is more expensive but I've been told the BMW pan is also available in aluminum and costs less so I'm going to check into that. Not sure if the filter on the LR pan is different than the BMW pan.
The 8HP45/70 pans are plastic, I used the FCP Euro BMW GA8HP45Z GA8HP70Z Oil Pan and Filter Kit - ZF 24115A13115 kit and It worked fine.
Some 8HP75 transmissions have a factory aluminum pan, part number 24119503407 (BMW M cars, some SUVs) I believe this pan will fit but I'm not 100% sure. PPE makes a replacement aluminum pan that fits as well, runs around $310. I was considering upgrading to this since I tow a travel trailer, but the stock cooler & plastic pan has actually done a pretty good job of keeping temps in check.

FWIW... Even though my independent mechanic said that the pans are plastic because they have a rock shield anyway, and the ZF documents are calling for aluminum, I am just going to post this photo here which shows the rock guard over my transmission on my 2018 HSE Lux.
Update: it’s been about 1,000mi after the pan and fluid change. The specific problem has not reoccurred. Most of gear shifting seems smoother, but there is something going on (that I can only described as hesitation/slight vibration) when shifting from 5th to 6th gear in D-mode at 40mph / 2000rpm. Almost feels fuel related but it doesn’t happen at any other speed/gear.

Could it be the engine lugging? Or does it immediately hesitate when it shifts? Have you tried resetting the transmission adaptation settings (need a scan tool like the GAP to do it)?
Thanks for the info. I did try the throttle-style reset procedure shared in one of the other threads [start button | press & hold gas pedal 15sec | start button | release pedal | wait 2min |drive] but I didn't notice any improvement. Not exactly sure if the above procedure had any impact on the trans, seems like it would be more of engine adaptation reset?
I do want to get a GAP scan tool and try this method. I also want to read the adaptation values to see if they show anything with 5th or 6th gears before going down the solenoid replacement project.
