no body removal on Discovery 5 as it is unibody (monocoque construction) - the body and frame are one unit. The earlier Discoveries (LR2, LR3, LR4) are body on frame construction-so to get to the crossover exhaust pipe you must lift the body off the frame.

For the Discovery 5 you need to remove the front and rear prop shafts (drive shafts) and tilt the engine to the rear. the dealer that did mine said tilting the engine back wasn't enough and the only way they would do it was to lower the complete engine in order to make workable space. This dealer was the only one that had the parts and had done the job previously. i do need to find a good independent in my area as the dealer pricing on parts and service is absurd. For me i ran out of time and needed to get the vehicle back on the road.

Dealer just diagnosed my 2018 D5 with the crossover exhaust leak. Based on this thread I figured this was the cause of the exhaust smell on cold start up. I also could hear a hissing sound under acceleration. I'm right at 80K miles which seems to be lifespan, if the crossover is going to fail.

Took my truck in last week to get 2 recalls done and found out that I had a carry over warranty that lasts until October 2024 from the previous owner. Planning to get whatever my issue is resolved. The best news I've ever heard.
