I’ve tried both, had about the same results.

Default Fix for remote start

I don’t know if this will help anyone else but it’s worth a try. I was having the same issues as others where my remote start would not work on my velar. Kept saying the car was unsecured when it was not. I took found I had to turn the location on in the actual app of my iPhone. The steps are settings > scroll all the way down to Land Rover in control app > location, turn on while using.
Now this is for the new app. Hopefully this works for someone.

iPhone? Android? Backberry (RIP)? Good coverage areas?

Strange. It works for me with my 2018

Yes - it's slow and a bit clunky. But works every time. Car needs to have decent phone signal. It's slow to respond. But serves the purpose. To be honest not really that helpful beyond a bit of a gimmick.. car info is useful (Eg checking if I have to refuel).

Agreed... My 2020 has always worked with no issues. I do think they could do a lot more with the app to elevate from the gimmicky status, but that would cost them money. The last software update seemed to speed up the remote start function too.

On my 2017 First Edition with 3G, if I lock the car with the door button and leave it for a while, the remote function will not connect at all.

If I lock the car with the remote app, not the door button, it will connect at any later time and all functions work reliably.

This is a repeatable issue and consistent.

That's odd. On mine you get 3 or 4 days after parking/locking before the telematics module goes to sleep. So if you park and leave it a few days then remote doesn't function. But within that period it still works fine.

On my 2017 D5, remote start rarely worked at all. The few times it did, it was a minute or 2 lag. Gave up even trying to use it. On my 2018, it works about 50% of the time with the newer app. When it does, it is within 30 seconds. I had an aftermarket unit installed on my prior Touareg and it was flawless so I know better quality is possible.

I sooo agree!!! I had a Chevy Tahoe and they switched to LTE as soon as they found out 3G would go away. No charge! And that was years before 3G got shot down. Obviously Chevy cares more about their customers than Landrover. And, why not updating the service AND giving us customers to have it on our key fobs as well???
