Land Rover Short Block (LR062617) – Threadless Cylinder Head Bolt Holes?
Hello everyone,
I’ve recently ordered the Land Rover part Short Block (LR062617). When it arrived, I noticed that the cylinder head bolt holes are completely unthreaded.
I would like to know:
1. Is this a manufacturing defect or standard practice?
2. Am I supposed to tap/thread these holes myself, or should they come pre-threaded from the factory?
3. Has anyone else encountered a similar issue and, if so, how did you resolve it?
This is a genuine part, but I’ve had trouble reaching the factory directly, so I’m hoping someone here might have some experience or guidance.
Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Are you sure the holes are completely unthreaded or only the top couple of centimeters? I can't imagine anyone could expect you to have to do machining on an assembled short block. You would have to disassemble it to do the work and void any warranty you might have had. Maybe the head bolts are thread forming? Seems weird to me.
