I love my 2017 D5 HSE Td6 and have had no mechanical issues with it so far (56,538 miles). It still looks new, and I can't believe it's been almost 7 years since I took delivery of it. I'll keep it until it's time to junk it when the wheels fall off or the engine grenades, whichever comes first. I do my own oil changes at 7500 miles and have been purchasing the approved Castrol JLR 5W-30 Diesel oil from the dealer. However, after watching YouTube video, Worst Diesel Engine on the Planet? Ford Lion V6 - Land Rover TDV6 SDV6, I'm switching to Amsoil's top-of-the-line Signature Series 5W-40 Max-Duty Synthetic Diesel Oil (which I use in my GMC Sierra Duramax Diesel truck) at the next oil change.

What is you all opinion on this Motul Oil?

https://shopmotul.com/product/8100-x-clean-gen2-5w-40

The Castrol oil mentioned by LRTime is not really easily purchased in US.

Thanks

I'm not seeing Motul listed with JLR approval or the ford spec. PDF attached.
Alternatively, Shell T6 0w-40 & 5w-40 seem easily available. my 2 cents

You can always run Motul for a short period and get the sample tested. Let the data speak.

I am aware of that fact. Did you happen to watch LRTime's video?
He can explain it much better than me.

Take a look at it, and give me some feedback. post #11, above.

Yep, watched Christian's explanation. My take-away was, choosing the 40 weight oil should go a long way to keep higher oil pressure & lubrication. Since you already change oil at a good interval, I wouldn't be too worried about using Motul. It is a well known and respected brand.

Personally, I'd still like to get some samples tested so I can sleep better.
Hope that helps : )

I have 7 liters left of a case of Castrol Edge STJLR.03.5005 diesel oil that I purchased from the Land Rover Las Vegas parts department. I won't be using them since I'm switching to 5W-40 Amsoil Signature Synthetic Diesel Oil. If anyone living in Las Vegas, NV would like them I'll bring them to your house and give them to you for FREE. Otherwise they'll likely be dumped in recycling with my next oil change.

hmm, I wish I was closer. Wouldn't mind a free oil change
plus it'd be nice to meet a fellow D5 owner in person for lunch.

If Diesel #2 were at pre-Biden prices you could almost use it as an excuse to help cover the cost of a one-day sightseeing round trip. Ping me if you ever have occasion to come to Vegas and we can still get together for lunch.
