I was going to get 19s, but I could not find any A/T tires to fit. Those Mickey's have been great so far with any terrain. I've been in some tough spots!
I have 285/50-20 Nitto Terra Grappler G2s on 20" x 9.5" Redbourne wheels (OEM wheels were 20" x 8.5"). No lift and no clearance problems or rubbing at any height, including ease-of-entrance (lowered) and off-road (raised).
My D5 came with 21s which are likely horrendous offroad.
Bought a set of 19s from a local offerup so I can use that set for camping trips. Hopefully 19s provide enough sidewall
I wouldn't call 21s horrendous offroad but they would definitely limit capability since there's no sidewall room to air them down. I wouldn't even air down my 20s but your 19s should be a good compromise that will provide some air down capability without detracting from highway stability and maneuverability.
You had me second-guessing myself but I checked, it is indeed 275-55-20. Partner declared situation was unacceptable and to get tires asap, so I ended BFG Trail Terrain in 255-55-r20. I didn't get to do much research, had to pick what was in stock. I'm already having nightmares of multiple flats and sidewall rips.
Damn, I was looking at these before I saw this thread. Were you running the XL or LT size?

https://www.gluetread.com/ sells a sidewall repair kit (offroad use only) that will get you back to civilization if you've already used your spare tire.
