We have recently purchased a 2001 V8 series II SE discovery. We have had a couple of small setbacks since purchasing it, but thank god its covered by warranty.... other than that, absolutely LOVE IT

Welcome. The front propshaft, if oem, is a problem waiting to happen. The U joints don't all have grease nipples, it dries out, the shaft snaps with very little warning, and tries to knock a hole in transmission. Rebuilding (write up in our tech area), or replacing with a fully greasable one, should be high on the list of things to do. You will "discover" that the heat gauge stays at 50% over a very wide range, using a scanner or Ultra Gauge will give you a true picture of coolant temp. Many owners have converted the oem thermostat to a 180F "soft spring" model, lowering engine temps about 10F across the board.
