Default New and looking

Hello all new here, considering moving from a 95 Jeep GC to a 99 Discovery 1 series. I'm a bit apprehensive due to all the negative press I have seen on the net about any Land Rover, can these vehicles have so many unresolvable issues or am I missing "the rest of the story"? I ask because I have read the same type reviews on Kia vehicles and I have 2, 1 since new in 04 and the other for over a year, neither of which represent the bad press they receive on the web, in fact both the Sedona and the Sorento are as or more reliable as any vehicle I have owned. Whats the Real story with the LRs?

I am an owner of an 06 Sedona since new, 265,000 miles.

I have a 97 D1. Lot more issues, but most of that I put off to poor maintenance by previous owners.

There is nothing unresolvable on a D1. Affordable is another matter. If you don't DIY the mechanic will love to see you coming. Most stuff is pretty simple. Shop manual is a free link in my signature.

Well I guess my Sedona will last quite awhile then, it only has 159K. Im definetly a DIY kinda guy. I have no issue with any aspect of mechanical/electrical repair long as I can get the tech support that is sometimes needed.

On the Sedona it is about time for tranny drain and flush. Dealer will want to drop engine. I took out battery, under that tray are the hoses that go from tranny to cooler. I opened that up, pumped out a quart, added a quart, until I had gone through a complete fill plus two quarts, engine at idle. Shifting returned to normal. Did that about 165K. Mitsubishi makes the tranny, has a spud for an external filter, Kia puts filter inside where you can't get at it easily with that vertical mounted pan.

The D1 shop manual is a free download below, it is called the RAVE.
