I have a new spare key! Can a locksmith fix this issue? Or do I have to have it towed to a Landrover repair shop?

 

Locksmith should be able to say yes or no. I think yes.

 

Same thing happened to me and a locksmith could not extract the piece that was in the ignition. If you are handy, this is the write up i followed to fix mine.

BTW, the locksmith that worked on mine screwed up the little "flap" in side the ignition. He was trying to pull it out thinking it was the key piece!! And he still charged me....

 

Locksmith couldn't get the key tip out, thought it went to the back of the cylinder, had it towed to a Landrover mechanic. Is there a good place to order that key ignition if it needs replacing? Ha! I called the dealership and they quoted $852. and said that part comes from UK and takes 20 days to get! Yikes. PS Sorry I posted to "Off Topic" I'm still new at learning the posting process!

 

If you have to replace the ignition and don't mind having a second key for your truck, then call Paul Grant, he will have a good guaranteed used set with it's own FOB for a very small amount.
