Angry Land Rover Evoque Shut Down

Good Evening Everyone, I was driving my Evoque last night, and I wanted to understand if anyone has faced this issue. Unfortunately, the car just completely shut down, lost all power, including electrics and ground to a halt. Fortunately, I was only on an A road and doing 20mph but it was a pretty scary incident, if I had been on the motorway or going quicker this could have caused a major accident or god knows what else. I had the AA out today to look at it, but they could not get it started or figure out what was wrong.
My question is has anyone else experienced this issue and if so what did you do about it?

Start by testing the battery, then Alternator.

then scan for codes.

Yeah we have done that, the recovery guy not get the car started, even with the battery having been charging for a long time. Its not the alternator. its now back with JLR awaiting a diagnostic which they cannot do until at least a weeks time either.

Did you get this resolved? I may be in the same boat and would rather not play whack a mole with a new starter.

hi Eric no irs not resolved. The car is still with them, they are trying every possible way to absolve themselves of responsibility. The issue is the timing chain has snapped (at less than 50k miles) and they are claiming it’s our fault and not covered by warranty.

Will never ever buy RR again

Oh man that really stinks. Did you have a slow coolant leak before the chain snapped?

No nothing, no leaks or warning lights to speak of. The car was also in for service in October and they didn’t pick it up either. Very disappointing

So they replaced the starter on mine and now are going back to replace the cable that runs from the starter to the battery. Said the starter had a short and it damaged the cable in the process. Definitely more expensive than the fusable link, but still way less than a timing chain.
