Default Frequent oil & filter change needed

L405 4.4SD V8 2017. I am regularly (every 2-3 months) getting a "service needed" warning on the Land Rover app. When I take it to JLR they say the oil viscosity is weak and needs an oil & filter change "due to my type of driving" ie short journeys. I do not always do short journeys. In fact I do a motorway run at least twice per week. This is becoming tiresome and expensive. A friend has an identical L405 and never has this problem. Are the parameters set too high? Is there an underlying problem which needs fixing? JLR quite happy to change the oil & filter and take my money but offer me no credible underlying reason for this recurring problem. Any help welcomed. Thank you. Tony

I think your instincts may be correct. If another dealer is reasonably close to you, I would have them do the next oil change and reset your service indicator.

For peace of mind, you may want to consider getting an oil analysis done to ensure that you don't have any abnormal contaminants in your engine that could be causing a viscosity breakdown. Be sure to include a TBN (total base number) test in the results. Sometimes it is a separate test with a small upcharge.

I've used Blackstone Labs (https://www.blackstone-labs.com/) for years. They send you a convenient kit to send the sample back to them. You usually get results in two weeks. There should be a similar service in the UK if you search online for it.

Good luck.

Also have your dealer check the service parameters when they plug the vehicle in. Not sure about this, but your parameters may be set for the service indicator to come on sooner time wise and mileage wise. Ask your dealer what they are set at.

Further to my posts above I took it to a reputable RR servicing agent who was recommended to me and ended up having to have a new DPF fitted as the existing one was so clogged. Luckily this was covered by my extended warranty. The RR servicing agent recommended "forcing" a regen periodically by driving at least 20-30 mins in low gear/high revs continuously. Has anyone found a successful way of doing this DPF regen by driving? if so what speed/revs and for how long worked for you? Without fitting measuring apparatus to the car there is no way of knowing if the regen happened/was successful. Many thanks
