2011 RR Sport Timing Chain Repair advice
So, here’s the situation. A good friend of mine has a 2011 RRSport HSE v8 5.0 with 123k miles. It needs a timing chain rebuild after throwing the restricted performance light. He purchased a new RR (he’s got deep pockets) and is trying to figure out what to do with the old one. He might just donate the car up repaired for the tax write off, sell it to a local shop or use it as a planter in his front yard...
Anyhow, he has offered it to me if we can figure out a way to make it work financially. I could probably purchase it from him, unrepaired, for around $2000.
I am attaching the estimate from a local trusted Indy shop for the repairs. They did say if they got in there and the cooling system needed attention it could be another $2500.
So I would be anywhere between $10k and $12k all in on the car once it was back up and running.
I know buying a car from a friend is usually a bad idea, but this is a fully transparent transaction so I’m not too worried about that.
id love any input on the whole idea as well as input on the mechanics estimate.
Thanks!
