Default damn, hate when this happens.

If you are going to gate a trail why not gate it near the bottom and not half a mile from the summit. We still walked the rest of the way, but damn.

Maybe that is where his property boundary is. Between the property owners mad at anything off road, intrusive hunters, and the dope crops and meth labs, it is getting harder to find a safe place to off road. Near me we have had a lot of drought, and wild fires that damage timber tracts, so nobody wants any extra folks out there on their land usually. I do agree that a sign at the base of the trail would also serve as a deterrant / courtesy.

Yeah, it's hard to find a great place to go off-roading these days. Between private property and other restrictions, it is a limited resource.

I encourage young Civil engineers to take up the sport, it will come in handy, and you get paid for it and get a company ride to cruise the back roads.

You need to move here then, 1,000's of miles of trails, you can travel for 2 days and never leave a trail.
