Thanks All!!

Small Update - The three amigos have appeared after 75 miles!!

I guess when I asked the seller "is there any warning lights", his response "no", I should have asked, "have you recently reset any warning lights that will reappear after I give you the money for the car".

Going into this adventure, I fully expected and continue to expect to dump a bunch of cash into fixing the Disco. Just wish folks would be more up front when selling, they might be surprised to hear "oh thanks for the heads up"

Lost my keys but after 8 calls I found a mobile key guy. He happened to have two copies and I provided the dealer code. This was a lifesaver and at $150, half the cost of 1 key from the dealer!

JUST walked into the house after spending the afternoon (4 hours) in the freezing cold with Bertha. I guess some days are like today.. ran a few errands this morning with a route/loop in mind so I could get home today at a decent hour. Came out to the Rover after my first stop, dead battery. A good samaritan stopped and asked if I needed a jump. Got her going, drove down the road with the intention of checking air pressure at the gas station and had two cars honk at me - pointing at my rear driver side tire. 'Yep.. thanks.. got it, on my way'.. I waved and smiled and moseyed on down the road. Got to the gas station, realized I was 2 quarters short for air, went inside but forgot to leave the Rover running. Checked the tires, got in and again, dead battery. Pulled out the jumper cables, walked up to a man who was coming out of the gas station and asked if he could help me out. He obliged, came over and as he was hooking up the cables told me that he didn't know if he had enough gas to make it home as he had just tried his bank card and it was declined. He said 'there should be enough money in there and for whatever reason my wife sent me to town with the bankcard and how embarrassing it was declined!' I gave him a few notes, said I appreciated his help and we chit chatted for over a half hour as I tried cranking the beast to no avail. A couple of other men stopped by, asked if they could help, one had a hammer and we tried moving the connection with the hammer and Bertha FINALLY took the charge. ... SOooo.. I figured I had a bad battery, drove over to Autozone (where I had purchased it 3 years ago last August), got the run around at the counter and finally said 'do you want to help me???? I am asking for help here'.. I think the autozone specialist was a bit taken back because I was at my wit's end and kind of lost it - he was telling me that my warranty was up (3 years) and I was 3 months past my warranty.. BUT, there is an extended warranty that was available that they don't offer anymore, but mine was still good and after the core charge of $18.00 for the old battery and the rebate of $55.00 for the replacement and yada yada yada, I could get a new battery for less that amount. But wait there is more.. 'I don't want to give you sticker shock'..

That's when I laid down the boom and said 'I don't need the riddles please.. please tell me how much the battery will be, if I'm still under warranty and if you can help me'.

$100 and a broken coolant line later....

So.. I am literally shivering right now because I'm chilled to the bone. Yep.. he broke the coolant return line that runs across the radiator and I hope it's not leaking. We kind of repaired it with 2 hose clamps and a piece of rubber hose..

I'm telling you.. it has been a day and I didn't even get to the oil change place..that was also on my list.

Today I cleaned all three wiper blades with white distilled vinegar to remove the dirty crud from the blades. The wipers now work fine in the Georgia rain.

I also got parts in the mail and installed them:
- new gas cap
- new coolant reservoir cap
- 8 each spark plug boot covers (some say it's snake oil, but for $38 bucks I'll chance it)
- woodland camouflage rear tire cover
- brass bleed screw for coolant system
- assorted sizes and lengths of silicone vacuum hoses (I'll tackle this on the weekend)

I learned just how far I can get on a tank of gas on a trip across Wyoming. Turns out it was 5 miles shorter than I thought.

Filled up in Cheyenne and ran out 5 miles short of Rock Springs. $240 for 5 gallons delivered.

Next project is an extra gas can mounted on the rack.

^^^^mapquest says it's 256 miles. Must have been loaded for bear.

Anyhow...

Made a couple easy repairs today, heater motor has been driving me crazy on he two highest settings, figured a mouse had taken up homestead while it sat for months at PO'ers house and figured I'd find the remains of the family inside, but it turned out being a small piece of rubber (from parts unknown) landed in the squirrel cage...and caused the noise, removed rubber flapper piece...done.

While I was on the passengers side, the glove box has been rattling. Latch was loose, tighten screw on inside...done.

Sprayed down the shock bolts for pad installation and cut some metal for the front bumper fab-job. Took a vacation day for tomorrow, may just work on those two things at work.

Brian.

The wind is always blowing east in Wyoming and I was trying to do the speed limit of 80 heading west in my less than aerodynamic Disco - roof rack, light bar, the off road tires can't help much.

I bet on the return trip with the wind at my back I'd make it easy!

I just did my CDL lock solenoid, transfer case would not shift out of high. I've read that guys have gotten to it from the bottom, I could not get it from down there and I have a lift. I ended up going through the top after removing the center console. But it's done and I have low range!!!
