Picked up a parts truck today, nice shape, lots of good parts, great deal from a real good dude. Now, is this nicer than mine? Should I take parts from it, or add parts to it?? ..what to do..

 

Drained and filled the trans. Rewired my DRLs so that the peanut bulb is the DRL and not the main bulb at a lower voltage. Painting the rad support cross beams and looking at one hell of a mess I've made of my garage floor. I'd say today has been quite successful

 

Decided I would start treating it like a civilized vehicle and washed it for the first time in almost a year. P38 got a bath too but it usually gets better treatment anyway.




Couple of weeks ago I used it to haul this blasted tree out of the road when I was running late to catch a parts guy before he went home. This was after I had already turned around once for a larger tree. Got to this one and decided it wouldn't stop me. Always nice to have a strap and an axe in the back!

On my 2000 D2, redid the front and back brakes using ceramic pads and high carbon rotors. For the extra cost which was not too much, these should last a bit longer. The calipers were fine.

As well, while driving, continual shipping and vibrations led to the rebuilding of the front prop shaft, but doing all 3 u-joints.

Now I have a suspected leak around the transfer case. I will soon clean the outer inspection plate just to be sure, but I think it will be time to drain, remove the plate, clean all surfaces and re-install with some Permatex RTV sealant. I hear that this is popular in some forums...and refill with 75-90 synthetic.

I am happy to say that since replacing the intake air heater plate, I have found no other leaks in the cooling system so fair.

 

Went camping yesterday. First real test since all repairs.. camped at about 9500 feet...all cooling system numbers good....max was 195..
All adaptives good....need to do a trans service for shifting.....
Used 4wd lo and traction control.....all worked well after option B repair......
All in all a good trip.. except for rain last night
Next up will be a new front winch bumper
