The tires are all 32"

LR have the following rims on offer:
18" as small as we can get and still too big. Lots of choices in tires.
19" No tire choices.
20" No sidewall and lots of choices.
22" Make me want to cry just a little bit. Enormously popular, enormously ridiculous.

Aftermarket options
24" Consult a neurologist.

 

Apologies if this has been asked but what is a sidewall and why is it useful when off-roading?

 

All due respect, but if you don't know what a sidewall is and why useful when off-roading you probably want to go with 22s or 24s.

 

Taller sidewall = less chance of rocks damaging your wheels. Also allows you to air down more. Stronger, reinforced sidewall materials prevent rocks from cutting into the tires. (Unlike the OEM Goodyear Wrangler sidewalls)

 

The 19's are perfect for comfort and also allow for some mild off-roading. Larger wheel sizes (20"etc) have less rubber between the wheel and the road so may ride more harshly. Basically, as stock the tires will all have a 32" diameter, it's just how much sidewall/rubber you want. Think lower profile tires with the 20" rims and lots more sidewall for the 19" rims. Same dimension for each though. That said, I have the 19" wheels and good luck finding snow tires if you want em.

I went with 19s because that was the smallest rim they offered for the P400. I wish they had warned me there are maybe 2 choices for 19" A/Ts.

 

​​​​​​I know that this has probably been inactive for a while but I am considering going with the 19" wheels on a '24 defender to improve ride quality. Does it really make a difference in ride opposed to the 20"? I don't plan to offroad much (just in a dry field or in deer hunting land). Do the all terrain tires that come on the 19" make a lot more noise than the all seasons? Thanks.

 

I just put all terrains on my 19" wheels. When I mentioned to a buddy that I did not really hear any additional road noise, his comment was "you have a luxury vehicle". In other words, Land Rover did a good job with sound insulation.

I went 19s with the intention of offroading. I was not aware that only one manufacturer makes 19" all terrain tires. If sidewall depth is not a concern, stick with 20s as you will have significantly more tire choices.

 

I have a 2023 D90 and a D110 both with Duratrac 19”. While I agree with most of the comments above I would repeat some - good ride, very acceptable noise, good traction (including snow although no tread tires would have been sufficient in Wisconsin this year), very pleased. Both Duratrac and KO2(3), are out with new tires. Not sure if either fit any Defender wheels yet. Some on the forum seemingly change tires every time a weather front moves in (no complaints), just not for me. I would probably put more wear and tear on the tires getting to, and back MOAB/RUBICON, than on the trail. Or I could do the TFL thing a drive a new defender straight from the showroom on on-road tires, go rock climbing and blame Land Rover. In short, when I need new tires, I will consider the 20’s but not feel compelled.
