As far as I understand, all vehicles get shipped to South Hampton from Nitra. I'm guessing via rail. Then they get loaded for export to the US. Others have been saying they are storing unfinished vehicles in South Hampton and then installing missing parts there before they get exported. I have yet to find anyone that had any details of how and when their vehicle got from Nitra to South Hampton.

I would guess by the time the dealer gets back to you that the vehicle may actually be loaded on the ship since it's already the 10th in the UK.

That makes more sense for sure.

So from what I can see from your Vista screenshots it takes about 2-3 month from order status to build status... hmm
I ordered mine on 07/07/21, so this means October/November 21 the car should be ready. Luckily I live in Germany which is about a days drive away from the factory where it is build. So it could be a Christmas present..;-)
But no word yet form my dealer in delivery estimate other than Q1 2022.

I was wondering if that was the same with my sales rep/guide as he seemed clueless on some of the details of what vista showed and also indicated they had to specially request it from land rover and that took some doing. I think the translation of that actually is that he has to ask his ordering manager and perhaps that guy doesn't like giving out the information for every enthused and waiting customer.

From my experience the ordering system has not been as clear cut as that.

For example I had one order in February that was scheduled for a July handover. I moved to a different model in March (which required a new order) and that delivery is scheduled for October. So the one month delay cost an extra two months for delivery. There are dealer allocation considerations along with placement within the general order queue, and then the factors considering supply chain constraints, factory downtime etc that can really change things at any time.

Being that you are in Europe it should make your overall ordering time probably 30-45 days shorter than orders having to be transported across the seas. I know people that were ordering here in the USA last month were getting quoted February or March 2022 ETA's.

Not trying to cause any anxiety or angst, just haven't heard. Has the Land Rover factory opened back up yet? Any ETA? Since the Defender factory shut down in June I'm not sure what they are shipping. And while it was all over the news about shutting down, I haven't seen anything about starting up. Are they actually still building? I hear reports of people tracking vehicles in-bound but not sure how they are getting thru the factory. Perhaps these are models waiting on parts that they are finishing.

Just received reply from my sales rep. He provided a print out from vista of the Logistics and Status categories. My defender is on the Oberon.

Ironically this was the ship I had estimated it was going to be on. I have been tracking in the past several days and imagining this was the ship in case I got blown off again about not being able to determine the ship name.

Port Arrival date is 8/28. I have a handover date estimate of 9/25 from the update two weeks ago. Last week my sales rep said 9/17. Next guess is if the front under shield is in stock for port install.

Thanks, yes that is true the later the order date the longer the wait as more orders are getting in I guess. I'll keep my fingers crossed to get it before Christmas... would be amazing.

Smaller screen and no heads up display might increase your likeability of having it completed quicker.

What is the car buying experience like in Germany? I realized I was telling you information based on how the USA dealership system works, which might be completely different then how it works in your country?

Can you order directly from Mercedes/BMW/Audi? For along time most people here in the USA have just purchased cars "off the lot" that were dealer spec'd cars. Their have been rumors that this method might be going away here as consumers would prefer to get exactly the vehicle they want/need. The Ford CEO seems to think this is the way of the future LINK
