I saw a lot of people claiming the factory shut down but my defender was built in mid July so I think that is evidence to show that it at the very least did not fully shut down.

What is the car buying experience like in Germany? I realized I was telling you information based on how the USA dealership system works, which might be completely different then how it works in your country?

Can you order directly from Mercedes/BMW/Audi? For along time most people here in the USA have just purchased cars "off the lot" that were dealer spec'd cars. Their have been rumors that this method might be going away here as consumers would prefer to get exactly the vehicle they want/need. The Ford CEO seems to think this is the way of the future LINK
Well in Germany I would say about 80% of all cars are ordered by the customers and then build to their requirements. Not a lot of people, who buy a new car buy it "off the lot". If customers do that they want to safe money as those are "show" cars and have a few thousand kilometers on the clock.
And yes you go to a dealer, spec the car you want with them, they give you a price, you go back and forth and order. It takes between 3-12 month for your car to be build and delivered.
We have a Skoda Superb Estate 4x4 and had to wait 12 month for the car do be build and deliver.
Ohh and the prices here are very high compared to the US. My Defender 110 D250 (3L diesel) SE with just a few extras (yes towing option, rear dif, clear view, black pack, driver assist) is USD 96k incl tax.

Thanks for sharing how that works there. Interesting about the relative price difference. Its like they price the vehicle very similar regardless of currency value. The base SE in the USA is $65k and the SE with your engine in Germany is€73k ($85K).

Does Germany have large tariffs on automobile imports?

He did say including tax, which I'm presuming includes the 19% VAT on new cars.

no we don‘t have any import taxes as long as the cars are build in the EU.
yes the price are similar at least Euro to USD region and we Germans will spend a lot on our cars. Well I got 10% off. 😁

Ironically this was the ship I had estimated it was going to be on. I have been tracking in the past several days and imagining this was the ship in case I got blown off again about not being able to determine the ship name.

Port Arrival date is 8/28. I have a handover date estimate of 9/25 from the update two weeks ago. Last week my sales rep said 9/17. Next guess is if the front under shield is in stock for port install.
Can I ask what your build date was. Mine was built 7/23 and I was hoping it might make that sailing.

I called Nitra this morning and asked them. They said it's still closed and she didn't know when it would resume.

Last time I called, 2 weeks ago, they said they expected to resume production in 2 weeks.

It sounds like they continued to work in July but only to wrap up builds that had already been started.
