That doesn't fix the original problem of the casings door being broken. Plus any new socket you buy will not fit into the mounting you took that out of.
Fairly new owner of a used 2020 Defender. First post.
Another broken cover. I thought for sure I could find a replacement part on the web. Silly me.
Fortunately I found ours laying next to the trailer. Some quick CAD work and 3D printer, I have one that I will try to install today. So far the spring and pin fit fine. I was able to reuse the foam gasket.
I made it from PETG-CF so it should be strong enough. This new-to-me material is sort of ugly on the bottom side but looks ok on the top side. I will say the sunshine makes it looks worse than it really is. You can see where I beefed up the hinge points.
I think this issue was settled on another thread. The cover from this item (purchased from Amazon for $12.00) will transfer to your socket perfectly. You just have to drive the hinge pin out with a punch. It’s much more beefy than the standard LR part. I replaced mine before the stock one ever broke. If my memory serves me right, the hinge pin is splined on one end and was driven out from left to right. Hope this helps.
