Sorry for the problem, @GavinC . Every time I read these stories it burns my bacon.
I'm going to repeat posting this EVERY time I read this story in the hopes that it gets widely reported as a problem that JLR has to fix. So, here goes:
vvvvvvvv
If a windshield spontaneously self-destructs, I'm thinking that is a safety problem. The integrity of the class is now suspect. It's difficult to see and can really make hazardous road conditions worst. If true, I think the best thing people can do is to start reporting the problems to NHSTA (assuming these are U.S. windows having all these issues). If enough complaints are filed for a specific vehicle with a specific issue, they will start an investigation. I'm not a data scientist, but it seems that there is enough anecdotal stories that something's wrong here.
Here's the link to start the complaints (Link). If enough people complain, it will trigger an investigation. If significant, a recall will be declared and JLR will be forced to cure.
If your windshield has shattered (other than the tree limb falling on it) spontaneously, you should fill out that link. You'll need your VIN.
Yeah. I will do that. There was definitely no strike. I'm not too bothered however. I figured it was in the post and after my alternator debacle this is small potatoes. Frustrating all the same but I'm not off the road.
I agree, the ShatterX stuff is worthless. I've already replaced two windshields on my 2022 110 (not even 3200 miles yet)in 9 months. After the second one I immediately applied ShatterX. Today a rock cracked windshield number 2. Texas highways are horrible and all the construction around Austin doesn't help. I love my Defender but these eggshell windshields almost make me afraid to drive it.
I just had the a new, stock Land Rover windshield installed on my 2020 110S on 6/1/2022 by their recommended installer and ensured the four rubber? spacers were utilized, in accordance with JLR instructions.
This is the third windshield -- now at 27K miles.
I completed the ShatterX application today, in strict adherence to the the mfg. instructions. Will it help? Hard to expect a positive confirmation, but we shall see.
Got a tiny chip today from a heavily laden mosquito or errant gnat. This recent slightly humid spell has really thrown a spanner in the works for us windshield users.
Fix is in for tomorrow morning.
It's so small (less than 1" with a tiny impact clearly evident) I wouldn't normally bother but I fear it will spread into an irreparable mess given past history. Typically i don't get chips repaired until I have a few to get done all at once. I hate wasting weekend time on these things. Who knows when the next one will come.
When this windshield finally does crack, I'll just roll with it for as long as I can. Takes all the worry away when it's already busted.
Awwww. Our Defender 2021 also a cracked w/sc. Two hits within 100klms ! Darn it. Reading the posts - this crack may've originated from under the rubber edge ? Tho did hear a stone chip. This, definitely a stone chip. Dealership in WAust (for 3rd time) sombrely advised ETA 2weeks (from East Coast).
Another cracked Defender windshield to add to the huge list.
Literally just bought my 2022 defender 90 three weeks ago and there is a Crack in the windshield for no reason. Starts from the bottom and is spreading upwards towards the drivers side. They need to do a massive recall already. This is ridiculous. I had to pay a $500 deductible to get it replaced and I know that it will probably just happen again. I filed a complaint with NHTSA tonight. I hope that something can be done about this issue soon. This is Obviously a very common defect that Land Rover should have acknowledged by now. Cracked for absolutely no reason
