Yes, according to my agent. Chubb is really outstanding company, and I have multiple properties listed with them in addition to our cars; I don’t think the car division would crap on us if I got the house/commercial-building divisions involved.
Sounds like an obnoxious yuppie who came from Range Rover into Defender. Good luck with Ford Motor Company, sir!
Super insulting. FYI, I am a 63 year old who has owned more than 400 cars. My daily driver is a Rolls-Royce, and my wife has a souped up Porsche Macan Turbo. I just got rid of my 911 C4S. I have built all kinds of hot rods and custom cars, including the last car we built from the ground up, which was a 120 inch wheelbase boat tailed speedster where we built the chassis from square tubing and the body out of steel. It has a straight 8 Buick with 5 spd manual and three deuces.
The Defender is an extra car for us. Windshields cracking for no reason is a problem. It takes forever to get one. I don’t like driving a new car with a broken windshield. That’s one of many problems. We have had a number of other electrical gremlins including a sunroof that randomly won’t close and a gear shifter that won’t go into gear. We like the car but the nearest dealer is 100 miles away and it’s a pain in the *** to get it fixed. I already have a car (the Rolls-Royce) that spends more time in the shop than in our garage. I want reliability.
We like our Defender. But we also have that new Bronco on order and it was built on July 27. It would be here if not for Ford’s hard top issue which is holding up all deliveries. Since Broncos are going for $25 to $50K over list and we are getting ours for sticker price, we will most likely take it when it comes and see which one…the Bronco or Defender…we like better.
Same thing just happened to me for the second time in the 14 months I've owned the vehicle. Exact same crack. Same location, same size, same similar driving conditions. Something's up.
My first replacement just occurred and I will keep an eye on how many on months / miles passes from the next crack occurs. At least now I understand the process and costs necessary to execute a replacement.
An interesting thing happened with my windshield before I replaced it. The crack rose vertically from the left side at the same point as others, and turned horizontal at the same point as others --- and then stopped cracking at the same point on the right side as the crack began on the left side.
It semms the center of the windshield is more highly stressed structually than the left and right 1/4s -- and maybe thermal stresses push the windshield beyond its limit?
Yesterday, our windshield cracked for no reason. Started on right side from A pillar. About 14” long. Not good. Huge pain as we don’t have a dealer within 110 miles. Better be covered by warranty. Not caused by us.
Making me wonder if I should replace this thing with the new Bronco we ordered first night it was available.
We got our Defender in April 2021. My wife has had 3 cracked windshields. Two were from highway pebble strikes. Today, the third one was apparently stress related as there is no visible stone strike impact mark. This vehicle appears to be defectively designed. One of he techs who replaced the second windshield told me that the windshields are too rigid. I suspect there are numerous other owners with the same problem. I am asking to be let out of the lease and placed in a different. Vehicle.
No apparent strike but I did hear a sudden noise like a crack yesterday when driving. Saw nothing and there was no apparent strike from anything. I just thought the noise was something the kids in the back made. In hindsight this was probably when the incident happened. Maybe a strike but it sue didn't sound like that. Gotten many chips in windshields over the years.
This morning I get up to see a crack appeared since parking it yesterday. It was definitely not present yesterday on the drive. Same spot and trajectory as all the others. Starts at the lower midline border and works up before hanging a left.
Not a heated windshield. Just regular. Less than 3k on the odo
The idea that Broncos fetch that kind of premium is unfounded. A quick search on the secondary market will tell you that there are a ton of Broncos being offered up at various prices. Some asking redic money and some asking retail or even a little under. So, if you like the Bronco, cool, but if you think you will be able to easily flip it, then think again.
As of this post, there are 248 2021 Broncos on Ebay alone.
