Anyone knowledgeable on whether there is specific hardware for this (specific headlight or lighting module)? Has anyone activated this on a car with the regular base headlights?
Auto high beam assist is in the vehicle settings in the touchscreen. Settings > Vehicle > Exterior Lights > Auto High Beam Assist. When AHBA is activated in the settings, it is always activated when the headlights are set to the auto position. Manually turning on the headlights will disable AHBA (when activated in the settings).

I'm also 99% sure it was standard across the board on all models in the US. Do you have the base headlights or the Premium w/ Signature DRL? I used to have an internal order guide for the 21MY from when I ordered mine. It was VERY detailed and showed all of the changes made to the 21MY from the 20MY. Listed all of the options, pricing, detailed technical specs etc. I might have it on my old laptop, but that document would have that info whether or not it was standard. I'll check to see if it's on my old laptop when I get home tonight.

You guys made me doubt. I do have the final build confirmation for mine and here's what it shows: "030NV LESS Auto High Beam Assist" which confirms my car did not come with AHBA. Further looking at my order sheet I see I have the following related to front lights: 064QA Led Headlights, 064AP Front Fog Lights (that was an added option), 064BU Daytime Running Lamps, 064DL Beam Pattern. I do not have: 064BW LESS headlamp Washers and 064DY LESS Headlamp Levelling (I have coiled suspension).

Just to clarify, I do have Auto low beam (i.e. the low beam is controlled automatically by the rain/light sensor when lighting is in auto mode through the stalk), which I understand to be standard on all L663s what I don't have is the automatic switching between high and low beam (as you point out @CincyRover that can be turned on or off on the Pivi touchscreen and IIRC that is not available in my Pivi). I also have that thing where the car proactively turns on the fog light of the side where I am making a turn into. Based on the shop manual I think I have seen all of these in my cluster except 7 and 8, which would be consistent with the car not having AHBA.

My apologies. Auto on the stalk is for lights to go on in dim settings. You're dead right. I'm an idiot. Auto high beams is in PIVI. (or not if it's not on your vehicle). I guess no other hardware is needed as the lights are the same. Just LED with or without the signature (defective) halo.

LOL. Thanks @GavinC , checked the shop manual and the other component seems to be the IPMA module (image processing) which I also have, so looks like everything is there. There are three explicit AHBA lines on the CCF, so might try those and see what happens. Will report back.
