As much as he did to bring the Land Rover brand to what it is today, I think he deserved to be fired over what he did to Jaguar. It was all him behind the design of the Type-00 and the production version (which I've seen pictures of without camouflage - it's just as hideous).

Ian Callum (Jaguar's former design director) said Jaguars have to be beautiful. The Type-00 isn't that whatsoever. He also said that Julian Thomson (who took over for Callum in 2019 and left in 2021 after what I'm about to explain) was told by executives (i.e. McGovern) that they had to immediately stop working on replacements for the XF, F-Pace, and F-Type, and McGovern would head the design direction for Jaguar's fully electric era. Jaguar was originally going to offer both ICE and EV versions of their next-generation lineup starting with the X391 XJ that was cancelled months before the scheduled reveal.

Such a complete waste of talent. He designed the Lincoln Mk9 Concept, the MG F sports car, the original Freelander, and oversaw (not necessarily designed) every LR starting with the first Evoque.

Also, I don't think I've seen a more arrogant ***** in the automotive industry. Incredibly talented designer, yes. And not just cars - he also designed women's lingerie and his own house (which is really impressive). But watch any interview, and you see just how unpleasant he is. I can only imagine what it must be like to work for him.
