Wow, that's really good. Did you order from Land Rover Dallas off i75? What specific model did you order?

I’m working with the dealer to place an order and they ask me to run a credit check first. Is it expected? I placed some orders at other manufacturers before but I’ve never ran any credit checks when placing the order. It always happens when taking the delivery, based on my previous experience. Did you guys experience the same thing?

Never heard of that before. I didn't have to do that when placing an order and it seems odd to hit your credit up more than once over what will be several months. That used to be an old scummy dealer tactic to lower your credit score and force you into a worse interest rate but I doubt that's the reason here. Maybe they just want to make sure you are serious?

Could be. I offered to place a deposit to secure my build. I guess I'll follow up with them to provide them with my latest credit reports from the three credit bureaus as a workaround.

I've never heard of running a credit check before ordering before from a legitimate dealer who is also charging a deposit, but we were in the dealer's system already because we had used them for warranty work on our Discovery Sport. It's probably different and up to the whims of any particular dealer and their market. We did our own financing through the credit union (interest rate was less than half through JLR financing) so I don't think they ever ran our credit at all.

I have heard of dealers requiring a credit check before allowing test drives on high end sports cars though, probably mostly just to weed out joyriders rather than anything nefarious like depressing credit scores. A single soft credit pull shouldn't make much of a difference either way when it comes to final rates and such.

With our truck we did have to fill out paperwork for a $1000 fully refundable deposit but oddly they never actually charged the card we gave them. I'm not quite sure what was up with that - the first time I called they said the deposit was $2500, then the paperwork in March said $1000. I was a bit surprised at how seemingly half-assed and informal the whole process was - all the paperwork they sent for us to work with our bank on the loan was literally texted photos of the purchase agreement / window sticker.

Which is fine because it all came through, just I was expecting like emailed PDFs and secure file shares and that kind of stuff. Just seemed rather amateurish on the part of a luxury brand.

I’m just calculating based on 7~10 day sail time from England to Newark/Baltimore port.

Good luck, me and another person’s have been at the dock for 4 weeks, was supposed to take delivery 9/9, now moved out til 10/21. Had to extend my check ready loan for financing and book airfare for a trip that I was supposed to drive somewhere for 6 weeks. Now going to have to fly back in middle of my trip to take delivery and then drive back UGH!

Woo-Ahh!

Got "the phone call" - our Defender 110 dynamic will be ready for pickup here in Colorado, Wed. Sep 28!

"Knock on wood.." here hoping there's no material issues as we put some run-in miles on it before heading from CO to OH early~mid October. The new Kimberley Kamper (Karavan) trailer will be prepped and ready for its maiden voyage home to Colorado. Gonna get some kicks on Rte 66 on the way east toward Ohio and stop and smell the roses on the route westward home.

Default Location and model seem to be the variables

...and then depends on whether or not the dealer has an open allocation or if you have to wait for one. From the time you have an allocation (and submit the order) looks like 4-5 months right now (at least on my area).
