New Defender OCTA
Have you spent time in a V8? It's literally the same thing as a base Defender minus some fake suede.
And what about the cost of the V8? It's a 20 year old design at the end of its run. A P400 engine assembly with the hybrid set up is more expensive than the V8 engine.
So please explain to me specifically why it is so unreasonable to think that a V8 Defender shouldn't be any more than the mid $80s to $90k?

2022 D90 XD

2023 D110 CE V8
The V8 comes pretty much with every option available. Compare it to the X at $90k and then we can have a discussion. Both have most all the expensive options like larger screen, HUD, surround sound, clear sight, towing, both off road packs, air suspension, etc etc. So is the V8 worth $21k more than the X? To me it’s worth every penny. It’s also in line with the upgrade you will pay with other premium brands like BMW. The X5 40i is around $80k loaded. The M60i is around $100k fully loaded. You are going to pay a premium for a high performance engine and a tuned and better suspension. I also think the transmission shifts much faster.
Bottom line is that the V8 is a completely different experience. Comparing it to a base defender?
Yes, I am. It's about 97% the same vehicle outside the engine. There are additional options but nothing actually significant, and most are software trickery not activated in the base car.
A D90 equipped with the full off road pack and air suspension comes in around $62k. There aren't enough options in the world to get to the point of a V8 CE. You can almost buy 2 base Defenders for the price of a V8 CE and 3 for the price of an OCTA. I get it's the way things are but really makes you stop and think what kind of marketing BS we're all falling for.

Also - another data point, a V8 Defender is comparable to a mildly equipped full size L460.
That should say it all as these two aren't even close to comparable. The Range Rover is light years ahead of the Defender in every single category and at the same price is better equipped option wise.
I'm not saying the Defender V8 isn't nice, but it is just very overpriced for what it is.

Im not saying that the V8 is pound for pound worth it. It comes with a premium for those that want it. Just saying that the 97% deal is bogus.
I wouldn’t own a RR.
Easy to tell that your mind is made up so happy trails.
In my experience with these things (typically from the Porsche world for the last 25 years) the most reasonable position is for both sides of the “is-or-isn’t-worth-it” divide to admit two facts:
1) As bad a deal as the base model of your car/truck is (compared to a Mustang, Corvette, Supra, Jeep, Bronco), the upgraded version (Turbo, S, GTS, GT3, P400, V8, etc.) suddenly makes the base model look like a pretty good buy. So you get guys who are used to having to defend (in their own mind or with friends, etc.) the seemingly overpriced nature of their own base or lower-spec version of the line now able to turn the tables on the higher-spec guys and point out how overpriced THEIR car is.
In the end let’s all just laugh at the fact we’re all suckers who overpay for our vehicles (“coulda had a Corvette/Rubicon 392/Bronco Wildtrack/Lexus GS/base-model 911/base-model Defender with similar or better specs for less money”) because we like what we like, and it costs us what it costs us.
2) The marginal cost of small improvements is much greater than the cost of the more basic stuff. If you want a V8 SUV, sure, maybe you can get one cheaper; but if you want a V8 Defender, then by God, it’s going to cost you $45,000 more than a base Defender, while giving you some options you could add to the base model for tens-of-thousands less, and some options you can’t get on the base at all. That’s all there is to it. If you want the wide-body 911, or one with rear-axle steering, you can’t get it with the base motor. If you want a V8 in a Defender you can’t buy a steel-wheeled stripped base model for $60,000 and add a $12,000 V8 as an option.
3) (I said two things, but here’s a bonus, totally for free) Take heart! No matter how much you pay for the upgraded version, it STILL looks like a bargain compared to something else. That loaded 911 Turbo that costs twice what the base 911 costs is a roaring steal compared to a no-options Ferrari F8 or V12 Lambo. We have only to look to AMG for our trucks, no matter how decadently optioned, to look like great values. So point your gaze upward, not downward, and everybody’s happy!

Thanks. USA info seems to be lacking info or maybe it is just me or my dealer. I’m trying hard to justify the cost before I buy one. Every bit helps. I carbon fibered my E63S, but after the first week, I don’t even notice it. Engine cover looks great though!
couldn't these also fit a 110 Defender powered by the 6 cylinder and 19" rims? They look like they will be adding at least one more choice to the mix for the 19" rim.
