Mine didn’t work at all initially either. Since we’re in the city, we really prefer to have auto stop/start functional as there can be lots of sitting in traffic or red lights. Brought it into the dealer and they flashed some modules, and now it works as expected. Strangely enough, in the first few drives after the update, the truck completely shut itself off at a red light on at least 3 occasions. It wasn’t a huge deal since we were stopped, but I’m happy to report that after over a month since the update, we’re not seeing any issues with it.

Default 2021 D300 HSE Auto/Start Stop

I have learned since I picked up my Defender 2 weeks ago that the system can be affected by low temps.....which was later confirmed by the LR dealer. The first time it kicked on was when the temp was 24C.....at 6am....then later the same day with 28C never kicked on.....works well but I prefer not to use it.....

Have you run into the shutoff issue since then? I just joined this forum to see if others were having this issue. I have a 2020 and mine completely shut off at a red light while it was in drive, but stopped. It started right back up, but I've been having other weird issues that may be related.

On another instance, I was in drive, but stopped, and my passenger opened their passenger door. The truck started to sputter and the center console started to flash. On another occasion, from a cold start it sputtered while it was turning over, but eventually fired up.

I'm pretty disappointed thus far. Are these things just fried?

I’m wondering though if the mild hybrid system is functioning properly as well. It doesn’t seem to have the same kind of initial acceleration pick up as the loaner P400 does. Have you heard anything from your dealer? I’m contemplating wanting to escalate it further if they cannot resolve it.
Same here on my 2022 XS but I read this post somewhere that mentioned it will not engage if the AC is set to a temp lower than 76 degrees F. i tried running the car at 77 and in some cases it will shut off now but no where as often as on my previous car a VW tiguan. I asked the dealer to take a look on my last visit and they found nothing wrong with it.

The latest versions may not have start stop in any case. JLR decided, like GM did, to eliminate it along with wireless charging on new builds due to chip shortages. .

Unless you have another source, those features were not mentioned by JLR. It was only media speculation. IMO, start-stop is too ingrained into the mild-hybrid system for it to be dropped.

Better sources (corporate updates to dealers) mentioned HUD, & 11.4" screens.

heh maybe they’ll only drop start-stop on the simpler engines like the P300 🤞🏻

We haven’t had any issues with it. The things you are describing certainly sound like the battery may be an issue, or perhaps some component needs to be flashed. Either way I’d give it to the dealer, and let them sort it out. We’ve been through most of the kinks, and its been awesome to drive

Thanks for the reply. Good to hear that after the flash everything is still working well — that is pretty reassuring. I’m taking mine in this week so hopefully they will be able to get it resolved.

Here's two articles. Defender production was "paused" on June 28 and they have a huge backlog of at least 110,000 all line vehicles, with about 20,000 of those being the Defender. I would venture an educated guess that JLR like every other auto maker will cut out whatever device has the most impact on their production. Ford, and GM cut out the start stop, and frankly, on the Defender MHEV it has no impact on performance. Many Defenders start-stop system don't activate anyway (we have two 2021's) and neither has ever had the feature activate in 6 and 4 months of ownership respectively. Start-stop is a gimmick to "increase fuel mileage" and deactivation is always available to drivers. https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/i...oduction-nitra Jaguar Land Rover Testing Changes On Models To Counter Chip Shortage Problem
