A Pillar Flapping / Crackling noise at speed
#163
As a reminder, I had the ticking sound on the passenger side A pillar only, around 70 MPH. I took the bulletin to my dealership. They told me that my 2021 was newer than the bulletin and that LR told them the fix has already been applied. I told them, "well, the ticking is still there... do you have a method to feed back to LR that their fix didn't work?" They said yes and they did. Then, they told me that LR instructed them to do the bulletin work anyway (putting felt inside). They did that work, and now I'm good to go.
Side note: Now the black plastic trim at top outer portion of driver side door is falling off. I'll have them look at that while doing the recall work for the rear camera.

Found the Fix!!!
1/8 inch foam added to A-pillar molding on top of the weather strip.
1/4 inch foam added to A-Pillar frame
After many miles and hours driving and taping down segments of the passenger A-Pillar to figure out what the exact cause of the noise is…I finally figured it out. It is the passenger A-Pillar, but more specifically it is the rubber weather stripping that is exposed on the windshield side. That piece of rubber isn’t snug enough on the windshield and allows air to pass underneath it at highway speeds which causes the tapping we all have been hearing.
In order to create a more snug fit on the windshield I applied 1/8 inch thick high density foam and placed it right on the weather stripping as you can see in my first photo. This applies more pressure to the windshield not allowing air to pass under. I’m not sure if it was needed but I also added some 1/4 inch thick high density foam to the A-Frame so that the A-Pillar molding can put even more pressure towards the windshield. I am so fed up with the noise I wanted to make sure it doesn’t come back.
With all that being said it is now very enjoyable to drive. I put about 40 miles on it already and haven’t heard the sound. I will keep you posted if something arises but I highly doubt it. Only downside to fixing this is I now need to order new cap covers that are located at the bottom of the A-Pillars as I broke off the clips that are attached to them.

Our P400 is in for the 4th time in about a month and a half for the same problem. The 3rd time was the only time the dealer actually did the repair but they were convinced that it worked. They even test drove it this time to make sure.
I am assuming they didn't go over 75 mph because it is still happening(maybe a 30% reduction in noise) but you would have to drive it for a couple of hours to really know how effective the repair is. Being without your vehicle for weeks is bad enough but to make matters worse, they replaced BOTH A pillar trim pieces and now the driver side pillar has a different type of wind noise(not the sand tapping noise). They stated that LR instructs them to do both if there is a problem with one.
I still don't understand why 1 side was acting differently than the other and why Land Rover doesn't come out with an A pillar molding made of metal. Seems like that would certainly solve the problem.
