Worst case scenario: no one buys my 98 rover. No one has the expertise, the time the money nor the desire to fix her up... Would it even be possible to use parts from the 98 discovery for the 96 discovery? On various rover parts sites, I noticed that parts for 95-97 are listed separately to parts that are for 98-99 not to mention the parts for 96 are generally cheaper. So does this imply that for.say the rear axle complete assembly on my 98 disco is not compatible with the 96 disco? How to tell?

FYI- I have an extra rear axle I'd sell, only trouble is I'm in Texas LOL. I'd be very weary of that purchase due to the lack of competence shown by the rotoflex being put on like that. If you can get it down to $800 go for it!

Yes all the parts from the '98 will work on the '96, even the axles.
The only difference maybe that the '98 has a u-joint instead of a flex coupler on the rear diff and rear prop shaft like the '96.
No big deal, just use the rear diff and rear prop shaft from the '98 on the '96.
