a test with basic ohm meter may not detect coil breaking down at higher voltages

8MM wires for 34 bucks. I did not know they were that cheap! I have heard they are really good as well!

I too am interested in knowing why you think misfires would degrade the coil packs, they are just large coils of wire....

I could see if they had carbon build up on them from arcing, that would give you leakage problems. Dirty or damaged contacts/wires would be more of an issue.
