Perhaps - the ECU is producing no codes because the sensors driving it are off the edge of the envelope. A data reading scanner might point to something like TPS% way off, or engine coolant sensor telling truck it is way too cold or way too hot. Other than the CKP and the MAF, you should be able to unplug a sensor and the truck run using a built in fall back value. The VSS is certainly one thing to try.

It takes 30 min to check both it never hurts to know what the internals are up to. My old carb'd 3.5 in the 110 would do the exact same thing. Cam lobes were in bad shape, the vacuum check confirmed that, and the compression backed up other internal issues.

I'll just revive this old thread because I hate starting new threads. Long story short, my truck stayed parked for quite a long time. Student budget and lack of time kept me from working on it.

I just got a brand new VSS and the little shaft has some play in it. I'd like to know if this is normal or I have to return the part.
