Eric....im confused...." I'm doing a full rebuild so my whole engine is currently at the machine shop. I'll begin reassembly once they're done prepping it"

So did you take your engine to Henry's ? or what is the name of the machine shop your using? ...I am North of Grants Pass by about 45 miles in canyonville.....no machine shop here if there is someone your using there in Grants Pass it is much closer than the shop Henry's uses....which BTW is LINDVIG in Medford... i think as it was difficult to understand the gentleman I spoke with....

If there is someone in Grants Pass you have intrusted would really like that info...

Have you had your engine returned yet? Happy? Have Experience with them at all?

Tahnks again!!

I only had to do a HG job, but decided to go all out and do a full rebuild. I'm using B and M Auto Machining because they were recommended by Star Auto in GP. I delivered my block to them with only pistons and crankshaft installed. Also delivered heads with rocker assembly removed, and rocker covers for cleaning. I'm going to take more parts to them later for cleaning.

So far they've thoroughly cleaned everything, replaced rings, seals, bearings, turned crank, honed cylinders, replaced two connecting rods, surfaced heads, did valves, and reassembled the block. Total shop cost: $1250

I stopped by today to drop off the valve seals. Everything is done except the rear main oil seal, because he thought I had it.

Looks amazing though. Like new. Looking forward to picking it up Monday.

Thanks for the info Eric... did all that need to be done....or was alot done just because their in there already......were your bearings bad? and how many miles you have...? Couple im staying with suggested rebuild just cuz....so im wondering how bad was ....in the end how necessary was all of it from a wear standpoint....what was their input on the condition ?

I know alot of questions just trying to weigh my options ...right? ....Feeling like im this far in and already have ordered oil and trans cooler hoses....power steering hoses just because everything is so easy to get at right now
Its like a dream to have all this room to work on things

HA! Getting closer more like it. Lots of work to do still. More parts to get cleaned. Ordered and waiting on ARP head stud kit and gear reduction starter. Still got to order Tom's cable set, timing set, tappets, rocker assembly, engine mounts, all new heater/cooling/vacuum tubing, better fan, and ceramic coated headers. Then I got to reassemble it all and try not to screw up Even then, there will be TONS more work to do! I just came back from autozone with $150 worth of just fluids and filters!

It has 163k miles. Bearings and crank were definitely worn and needed to be addressed. Two connecting rods were bad and needed to be replaced. Everything will be worn to some degree. I could have got away with just a HG job, but how long before something failed? Maybe years, maybe not. I plan on keeping my Disco for a long time so I want it to be like new and it's worth it to me. Your cost may be less if you don't need rods or your crank bearings have been replaced recently.

Somewhere there is a fabulous trail, ending at a beautiful escarpment and sunset, where you can enjoy a cool one and think back that this was all worth it. Put pix of same on the garage wall for motivation...

How about the valves and guides? Do you have the carbon cutting exhaust valves on yours? Cam, lifters and push-rods ok? How's your rocker shafts look, undercut?
