high idle and the IACV
Hi all - Just changed the master cylinder and bled the brakes on my D1. Its such a nice day that i thought id work on my high idle issue as well. I've read many a post concerning this subject and think i have a pretty good understanding. Its either a doner IACV and ECU or a trip to a indy for a hour shop time for the testbook reset. What about if you unplug the IACV in park and the idle never changes or stumbles. Does that point to a bad iadle valve? I dont mind a trip to a garage but would hate to find out then that the IACV is no good. Just curious how I can be sure its working before i call it bad. Thanks,
Keith

fwiw.... I replaced mine with a crossover part from NAPA.....was a gm application...with the initial start up the idle was high (1800 or so )....the instructions with the new part said to drive the vehicle for a few miles at 40 mph and it should correctly set it self....well...when I came to a stop after the drive the idle had slowed to maybe 1200....still high...I shut the engine off and sat there a few seconds, restarted the engine and miracle of miracles...idle was correct. I'm sure that anyone with all the correct diagnostics could set the idle at once.....but a lot of techs have told me since that the drive it / shut it off / keep trying it method usually works.
