Well I let the truck idle for 30 min today. I can't drive it because i have the rear drive shaft off to pull the diff. At first it was not steaming out the exhaust but the longer it ran the worse it got. I'm fairly certain it is a head gasket that is leaking when the temperature gets high and the gasket expands. Its a pretty nice truck otherwise but I don't have the time to work on it now. I already have the fiances old car to do a head gasket job on and a boat that needs to be worked on. I will try to sell it as is if someone wants to fix it and if I don't get what I need for it I will just part it out.

Well guys, I believe I found the smoking gun. The expansion tank cap was not bleeding out any pressure and I believe the higher than normal pressure was forcing coolant out somewhere (why it held pressure with no leaks at 15psi). I replaced the cap and ran the truck for 30 min, turned it off and let it cool. It did not lose any coolant and the system did not hold any excess pressure. Steam in the exhaust seemed to be condensation built up in the exhaust from running for short amount of times while I fooled with it. Drove it today and it is not steaming from the exhaust at all. Will drive it to work and back the rest of the week and monitor the coolant levels. If it stays full I will go ahead with a full tune up, radiator rodding, coolant flush, 180* t-stat and fluid replacement. Then I have to decide the fate of the truck because the boss lady made it quite clear that there is only enough room in the yard for 1 Disco.

Well I won't be sure until I drive it a bit but if that was the problem I'll be one happy camper!

God I wish! It's a pretty nice truck. Paint is so-so but the interior is clean except a curled dash but I have a replacement. Runs real smooth, shifts smooth, manual cloth seats, no sunroofs, etc... I just don't like it quite as much as my 98. Gotta love wood grain, heated seats, and all that nice stuff when your out wheeling with guys freezing/sweating there asses off and getting covered with mud in jeeps

CUpgt: Does the 94 have the R380 in it? If so I might be interested in it if you plan on getting rid of it.

Talking may be relevant

My 95 disco td 300 had a tiny coolant leak took ages to lose a tank of coolant.
It ended up being a welsh plug rusty on turbo side of engine.
I only noticd leak with engine quite hot and i was lookin in turbo area after
manifold gasket replacement.

I ended up sealing over plug with a oil resistant sealent, as i couldnt face removing manifold again <grin>
