Probably going to have to pull the transmission (R380)
Well I do know that it's not locked to the pressure plate at least. It'll be interesting to see what's going on inside of there but it'll take me a little while since I can't work on it non stop.
I've been keeping a little busy here and there with the Disco, sneaking in little jobs (removed headliner for recovering). I need to keep the wife and kids happy, plus working all week. I did manage to pull the starter; not too difficult but I didn't realize that the heat shield was clipped to the solenoid so I tore the shield from the clip by accident - it should be fixable. Pretty much the only thing left to pull the transmission is the bolts to the engine, transmission mounts and cross member - oh, and the brake drum. Still not sure whether I should just scoot it back; or go all the way out with it. Also, I don't have a transmission jack yet either so any tips on this would be great. I was thinking of using the engine hoist through the hole in the top for the rear portion. Forgot to mention, with the starter out I was able to get a good look at the throw out bearing; and could even read that it is a SACHS bearing which I think were OEM at the time, maybe still are. Even was able to look through the fingers and see a couple of clutch springs; they were either orange or red in color. No 'smoking gun' other than the shards of clutch material and rubber pieces in the bell housing to indicate why the clutch doesn't work. After I get it out, the clutch better be toast!
I highly recommend the R380 adapter and a transmission jack.

When refitting be careful that neither of the O2 sensor connectors have dropped down inside the bell housing.
Don't ask how I know.

Thank You AC, a couple of questions:
Is this adapter used in conjunction with the jack during the removal process; or just as a stand afterwards?
Does it take into account that the transfer case is still attached?
What do you think about making this, or something like it out of wood?
Although I have a welder, I don't have a plasma cutter so materials and labor outside of welding could get expensive and it's not like I will be using it that often (hopefully).
