So what did you do to your Disco today?
Went to visit my parents and got stuck (hands were too muddy from digging the mud with shovel from under truck to take pictures) but then my cousin got one because with at least one picture nobody believes it happened. HA HA HA
I am enjoying the mud with all the rain now!

Had a girl in a Kia Rio run a red light in front of me. My boys and I walked away with no injuries. My Disco suffered frame damage and is getting totaled, so I am in the market for another one.

What's the insurance company giving you for it, if you don't mind my asking?

, but lucky you were in Dscvry...a glorified tank. Not that it's important now, but it's not usually cost-effective to carry collision or fire & theft insurance on a vehicle as old as 1997, based on blue book value (which is typically very low). You might want to consider putting the money that you pay to the insurance company as collision and fire & theft premiums into a separate savings account. Then, if something happens to the vehicle (like your accident), you have money set aside to pay for that repair out-of-pocket. It's basically self-insurance.I had an accident with my Dscvry that resulted in front-end body damage similar to yours (but, I had no damage under hood; I can't tell condition of your radiator from photo) and had it towed to a body shop. Owner said, "Too bad. Insurance company will say it's 'totaled'." I said, "There is no insurance company or finance company. So, give me your best estimate to repair body damage, or it gets towed to another shop." Shop did a decent job for a reasonable price. Only problem was the sunroof seemed to leak after that repair, but I didn't specifically check it at the time. It was definitely worth repairing vehicle myself out-of-pocket, rather than shopping for replacement vehicle with unknown history.
Funny thing... Owner later admitted to me that he was sorry that it wasn't a 'totaled vehicle' insurance claim. He was gonna fix the Dscvry and give it to his daughter! It must've been love at first sight
. Lol. Be happy you were in a Rover. It's just a machine, and it can always be fixed (although expensive at times). Don't forget to tell the boys that.
Safety is a key reason that we deal with all the LR headaches and costs. Dscvry did it's job. Be well
.
Yes, older Land Rover's, due to their sheer heft, seem like relatively safe vehicles in my opinion (despite their lack of today's sophisticated safety equipment).
Glad to hear that someone & his family were helped by it (hope that the driver of the Kia Rio, despite her stupidity, didn't suffer the worst from it!).
Reminds me of the time when my family & I were returning from the farm some years back & hit a cow (fortunately, approx. just 250 kgms.) that had managed to stray 'loose of its noose' & decided 'the grass was greener' on the other side of the highway. Although we were just going under 70 kph. approaching the bend, I wasn't able to avoid hitting it because of incoming traffic on the opposite side & a deep ditch on my side.
Fortunately, we were in the Defender 110. Poor cow, wriggled its feet up in the air a few seconds & was mercifully gone. The other 4X4 we were in convoy with pulled my front right bumper out & we were back on the road in no time.
Since then, I've had a fabricated heavy duty bull bar & rear bumper on the Defender provide the necessary 'insurance'. Besides animals, good for unruly city traffic too.
Today, didn't use the Discovery as it's license plate restricts usage within the city Monday's.

Had to work from home last Friday due to a bad starter. Thought it was water related due to a leaky windshield from all of the rain we've had combined with a bad seal that ruined my old radio.
Installed a new media receiver (doesn't use cd's, but instead has a SD card & USB input) and wired my cb to the battery.
This week I'll be installing the new starter, cb antenna, and doing the Camel cut for some offroading probably on the 28th.
