I'm opening up my dash of my '96 Disco to get turn signals, brake lights and tail lights working.

Too bad I don't know what the hell I'm doing.

does anyone know if its possible to just rip out an alarm and imobilizer in a 98 D1? i dont want either of them to work. i just want to be able to lock my vehicle once and a while is that too much to askk!!??

 

With the right scan tool you can adjust some settings but not sure if you can dis-able it completely without removing it from the system.
Do a search as some one here posted the wires you need to cut and join to bypass the alarm.

I'm planning a trip to Colorado and didn't want to trust the Treadwrights on there.

 

That should be a lot of fun. About 10 years ago we took a trip out there in a '77 VW bus. My wife, three kids at the time and me. We had a great time and came back with lots of stories. It's funny the assumptions people make just because you are driving an old VW bus. But we always found friendliness in the most unexpected places. Old bikers, sheriff's deputies and church deacons.

Well today I finally got to tinker around with my 98 LSE after 3 years of owning it. When I bought it the owner said the LR Dealership in Houston tried, but the CEL would still trip with a P1187. When I got it home I cleared the fault and only after it idled for a long time would it set a pending code & then finally a fault code and CEL. I slapped on some new O2 sensors and it did the same thing. I then had my family grow so piddling with it was put on a back burner.

Well 3 years later I had some time to piddle with it. I metered out my O2 sensors and the heaters metered out as good. I then was checking the connectors for clean contacts and on the passenger side O2 connector I found the white wire on the connector side completely hanging out of the harness side!!!!!!!! All those years with a on/off P1187 fault due to a darn heater wire not being in the harness fully.

Cleared the fault code, let it idle for at least an hour with a 60 mile drive and BINGO no pending faults and no CEL... Can't beat a simple fix that on a nearly 20 year old LR to be CEL free.

It's also funny the LR Dealership didn't catch it. However I think it pulled out as the O2 sensors weren't clipped into the little retaining clips on the bell housing. I properly secured them and I should be good to go for a long time.

Two weeks before I took my 98 LSE on a 800+ mile road trip up to Dallas, TX and back. I was amazed at how it drove and handled the Dallas traffic. I wasn't even tired or sore after driving it (something I can't say about my 2014 work van that I drive daily).

I am truly happy with "old faithful" and it's for sure one of the best LR's I've ever owned.
