An oil and grease weekend
Nothing major this weekend for my ‘97 D1…renew axle oils (Lucas 80w90), and grease swivel pins (Bearmach one shot). I only have the one access nut, unlike the three nuts for oil.
Likely go for a 15 minute drive to warm things up. For the swivel pins, load up with tires dead centre, then turn to lock which will likely create more space to add more grease. Seals look good. Easy stuff for a couple of hours that don’t need a jack.

It Lives! (and drives, and stops!)
Well, not today, but over the weekend I did a complete brake rebuild (master cyl. all four calipers and rotors, and pads) on my '98 Disco. For the first time in the year and a half that I've owned it, I can actually drive it! It's running great considering it's been off the road for 8 years. I still need to bleed the system some more, and of course the ABS doesn't work, but it does stop. There's lots more stuff to do yet (like put the interior back in, lol!) but I think I fixed the rear sunroof leak yesterday. I even got in a little off-roading on a local trail. I'm starting to think that all this work may be worth it! I forgot to take pics, but I'll try to take some tomorrow.

A breaker bar is your friend
After replacing both axle lubrication, and topped up the pin wheel housing with grease, I had to use a 1.2” breaker bar to crack the bolts so to speak. Working on the radius next, this will be my friend. Keep it handy.

All D1’s have them. They are the predecessor of a CV joint. If you have download manuals you will see where they are. Here is a picture of mine with the access grease bolt. Brakes and tires on one side, axle on the other. If yours is an earlier model, it may have three bolt holes for drain, level and add oil. Mine is a late ‘97. The radius arms connect the axle longitudinally to the body. If you look up radius arms disco 1 and pin wheel housing disco 1, you will get a better idea.
