I finally fixed and re-mounted my passenger side rear light guard that got pulled off on a really tight squeeze through a brushy patch in a wash about this time last year. Had to flatten the metal and reset a new rivnut in the body and also had to re-bond the brass inserts into the rubber bit.

Are these the ones with the big rubber strip? Do yourself a favor and pull them off before even more damage gets done.

Yesterday I lifted the old lady, Disco 1 1997 mod TDi on tresels and removed both front hubs, front axle centre portion and found that the terrible clanc/ klonk, when turning left, sound is not coming from the hubs or diff.
Removed Gearbox and transfer case and found little bit of steel shavings in transfer oil.
Started to strip the 3 rd diff and whalla, out came 2 pieces off ground up steel.
about 1 cm square.
The final Diagnoses: the two Half shafts holding the planetary gears has broken due to, it seems, the gears seized on the shafts.
The reason for that is a jackpot question.
The disco did 273 000 km high speed and hard off road.
Then came the surprise when quoiting the parts locally.
The parts is not available in Mozambique but can have it in two weeks time @R 10 866-00 (USD)$ 1300-00.
Thank goodness for technology and quoted the parts in South Africa @ R 1500-00 (USD) $175-00 plus Courier $18-00.
This includes front diff oil seal and rear Crank main oil seal.
I have received the parts from order to delivery within 20 hours.(700 km away)
So hopefully mrs reliable will be up and going again by Monday evening.
That is what i have done with my Land rover yesterday and today.
Regards
Hercu

Working my way down Disco Mike's high mileage service list. So far:
Changed gear oil in diff's & transfer case
Changed engine oil
Flushed brake fluid
Changed tranny fluid. (Was going to replace filter, but the local auto parts store doesn't stock it.)
Cleaned throttle body

Truck rides a little better every time I put a wrench on it.

Well this morning before the college football games started I wiped down the power steering pump, gear box and everything under it to try and ID where the leak is. Tomorrow I will take a look at it closer...

I also ground off the rivets where the rear mud flaps used to hang...although they were gone when I got the rover. Now i'm hunting for some rubber material to cut some news ones out of....

Changed plugs (NGK) and wires (Kingsborne 8mm). Still have that damn stall and can't figure out what it is.

Changed the fuel filter, added grease to the swivel ***** and copied this guy's idea for my front bumper.

Received all parts and did not check Thrust washers.
New thrust washers did not arrive with new parts.
Now, need to wait another day to fix my Disco.
