Has anyone tried the idea with a strong magnet, which was mentioned in another thread? I can stick a magnet to the block at the place of the liner pins, meaning that the magnet attracts to the liners behind the aluminum block. However, he force is not very strong, but the magnet I used was also small and does not align with the block surface very well.

Just pinned all 8 cylinders in a 4.0 that is getting rebuilt. Difficult, no. Time consuming and tedious, definite yes. Engine was out and on a stand. That said, just as preventive maintenance as my 4.6 now(current daily driver) has liner issues. The swap should be done shortly(hopefully)
