Default 2003 disco 2, M&S lights flashing, truck will not move

So I went out to get in the truck this morning started fine but would not move, M&S lights on the dash flashing. I've searched most of the transmission threads and have not seen one where the failed XYZ switch totally disabled the vehicle, do I have a different problem or is it like to the XYZ switch also? Vehicle info: 03 disco, 160k miles. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

When you move the gear shift from park to reverse and drive, do the lights on the indicator light up, or does the correct gear in the instrument cluster show?

Any recent work to the vehicle, or any recent off-roading, water crossings, etc?

Yes it could be a XYZ switch , but they are $$$ to guess. I would have the charging sysyem checked. The trans. Ecu is sensitive to voltage. Iirc there is a ground issue that will cause this also. Does your tranny shift? or is it in third?
