Default 96 D1 stuck in Reverse

I did a search and did not find anything relevant, so here goes. This D1 died on the freeway, will startup after pulling over, but now the bigger problem is the transmission is stuck in Reverse, brake lamp switch has already been bypassed, all fuses are ok. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Pop the trim piece off of the top of the gear shift ****, tighten the nut, drive it like normal.

Thanks Spike, found the clip that holds the mechanism in place had popped off. All good now.
But do you have any idea regarding the dying while driving issue?

So your DI just dies while driving on the expressway?
Or while at a stop light?

It died while on the freeway, but while sitting in the shop running, about 45 min later, engine dies, battery is dead. Although the battery light did not come on, appears the truck has an alternator failure. Will test and update. Thanks
