Default Adding sunroofs to a 99 DII

My DII did not come with any sunroofs and i have to say i really like the look of them. Has anyone added a set from another disco? I dont want any aftermarket ones.. i really like the look and function of the factory set up.

I see a few for sale on line and was thinking about getting up some courage and a jigsaw and getting to work. If someone has done this and has any tips that would be magic!

Thanks
Dave

I am not sure if the roof frame has the areas cut out to install sun roofs. That would be the main draw back other them wiring.

I have a 03 Disco S. A previous owner installed aftermarket sunroofs. Used the stock switch locations. Everything works great and looks great. I think I actually like it better than the factory sun roofs because instead of those cheesey pull across shades I have a solid vented slide away cover like most sun roofs use that reused the interior headliner so it matches. I wouldn't spend all that time doing to the install and using those stupid sliding shade things.

your title to this thread should be "thank God I don't have sunroofs"

It's a LR, of course they are cheesey - that's what makes it a LR, no?

Your install sounds nice but high-buck. The install of these in a '99 Disco may not make a lot of sense - likely costing a large percentage of the value of the truck.

Range Time - my humble opinion is live without them. If you can do the install yourself and really want them - try it I guess. If you are going to have to pay to have it done - I'd pass. Holes in roofs aren't generally a good idea.

You could probably buy another Discovery for about what you would spend putting sunroofs in your current one.

I had a MB 420 SEL that had a solid metal very large sunroof, I really liked it.

I have also seen a local Surburban running around with a slightly raised roof with Alpine Windows and a very nice MoonRoof. I would do a custom job before i would cut up a good Disco to put in those tiny twin sunroofs.

I get a pair of sunroofs (compete with motors and harness) from a DII shipped to me for about $350 (the pair) The plan is to do my own work as it was the fun of doing the project that i really fancied.

The other great thing about having sunroofs is i know i wont get water in them, it only rains 2x a year here and for all of 10 min so its just not an issue.

I had thought about using 1/4 aluminum plate and not glass just to be a bit different but I'll see what i can get my hands on.

Thanks for the input and I'll let you know what i decide.

Dave

just remember - measure twice, cut once!

If you pull the headliner (that probably needs to be recovered anyway) you will see the basic location of the sunroof positions.
