Default Airbag Removal

When I get home I am planning on replacing the cruise control switches on the steering wheel because I believe it is bad. I was looking at the RAVE manual and it said to remove the airbag module it take a tamper proof hex wrench. Does anyone know what size Hex the bolt are? Has anyone pulled the steering wheel airbag module? Someone has to have done this at some point.

I have never done it but you MUST disconnect the battery for no less than 1 hour before starting work, it can go off in your face and drive that hex head screw driver through your brain.
We dont need to loose any more forum members.

I was surprised when RAVE only said 20 minutes between disconnecting the battery and starting work. Fortunately the bolts are on the back side of the wheel so I don't think I have to worry about the driver going through my brain. And it would be a 1 in 10,000,000 shot to hit that small of a target. I was planning on an hour of the battery being disconnected before I start. I have enough other stuff to do that the time won't be wasted.

Well I didnt want to say it, but since you did...it is a small target.

I say a hour just to be safe.

I figured I would save you the agony of trying to hold it in. I knew the thought was there.

just hit the front of the rover with a sledgehammer until the airbag pops and then use a utility knife to cut it off,,,,

Are you talking about a factory replacement steering wheel or an aftermarket wheel? If it's a factory steering wheel you can use your original airbag module and save or sell the one that comes with the wheel.
