Default Airbag removal

So I'm finally going to resolve all the little issues I have for the moment and register the Disco (jeez, about a friggin year later no less...).

Anyway part of the inspection is a quick toot of the horn. Well I have the seemingly common spring failure. However, I can't seem to do the repair without having to pull the airbag- based on the replacement parts i've got.

I watched the Atlantic British video on replacing the spring, but the parts I have and what need to go in are different. Anyway, I wanted to pull the airbag anyway in helping with the diagnosis of the cruise control system.

GETTING TO MY POINT, I buggered one of the torx screws to get the airbag off. Any ideas on getting an easy out bit in there? I'm thinking I'll just get a Harbor Fail cheapo close quarters drill with the bit in there to go after it. If I kill the whole thing, I can get another wheel (already wrapped mine in paracord) and airbag for under $150...

This link might help. I did my steering wheel not too long ago.

Thanks for the prompt response and thread reference.

I've seen the RAVE portions and watched the video previously. So I know how to do it, but I screwed up and used a torx wrench one size too small on one of the screws and stripped in.

Bottom line, how do I fix such a colossal mistake? The easy out is best I can come up with...

Yeah I've got a set of those, but may have to order what you've got based on how deep the screw is in there.

I've not messed with it in a bit, but I need to see what kind of access I have to get in there...

You can simply drill the screw head off. Once module removed should be able to remove remainder of screw more easily.

Drilling the head would be my suggested approach too, but getting a drill in there might be pretty tight.
What is the spring failure? One of my buttons was non-functional when I got my truck because a leg was broken off it and the spring was missing, but I was able to replace all of that from the front without having to dig into anything.
