Default All D2 Trannys Fit an 03 D2?

Wife is having major tranny leak while traveling, so Im trying to get an idea of compatibility. Do all D2 trannys fit an 03?

She said she saw smoke out the rear window and pulled over immedialely. Got out to have a look and fluid over the rear end. Turned it back on and put it into drive and wouldnt really go, so stopped and called aaa. Tow guy thought it was tranny fluid. So preparing for the worst.

Thanks

Brian

The 03 has a beefier trans to handle the 4.6 motor.

My wife has an 04 with a O4 trans and torque converter but with a 4.0 motor from and 02.

Doesn't directly answer your question, but I imagine it could go the other way.

If you are near CA I have an 03 trans I could sell you.

No, it's not a direct fit. The transmission on the 2003/2004 has beefier internals, and thus longer than the earlier D2's. This means that the transfer case is further back, which requires a longer front proper shaft.

Rave manual actually notes the exact length difference, I can't remember what it was but not that extreme. At max you could buy a prop shaft spacer from Rovers North and be done with it.

^that is accurate

That being said, they are pretty much interchangeable, and all aftermarket shafts fit any year.

Yeah, I was going to say that that is .6". I noticed that lucky8 sells their shaft as interchangeable for all years. Installed it in an 03' with no issues, but was a little concerned.
