I'm curious to know how you'd know if you have a dropped sleeve? My '01 DII has lost a little coolant with no visible signs of leaking.

For what it's worth, I've had some communication with Cannibal and they've been very responsive.

my assumption is that I'd get the good(?) news when pulling the head to take a look

I don't have time or expertise to do the heads myself, so in my case it makes sense to assume the worst, order a better motor than the one i currently have, and if the one i'm pulling out of my truck is just in needs of headgaskets, selling it on.

How much is the Cannibal V8 bored 30 over with the cam upgrade? Do they offer other options like port and polish jobs?

Not cheap

The 30 over with performance cam, and port and polish is around 7 for the crate motor long block , another 325 to ship it to me and then obviously I have to get it installed.

I thought long and hard before pulling the trigger on the new motor. I'll be around 25-30 into the truck once it's installed and that doesn't include factoring in any of my own labor over the last two years. I just really like my Discovery 2 and there's not really anything that I could replace it with that I'd prefer. By all logic, the LR4 that I bought my wife is a "better" vehicle, but my D2 has a soul to it that speaks to me in a way that previously only obscure italian motorcycles have

Default 03 land rover D2 paid 4500 with a tick

i know this is an old thread but not an old subject, this was an enjoyable thread, this shop, cannibal i think is the name, its never good when someone is working under pressure or racing the clock. when i look at turner engineering i see a clean shop, machinist at the bench with aprons on focused on the work, i see several engines on the shelf in the background of the pics, lots of detail information on the build process. im going with turner engineering for my 4.6 long block and piece of mined.
