Default axle and transfer oil type

I looked over and read many ideas on best. New to both forum and owning purchased less one week. Changing oil tonight since unsure last changed. Last service record show dealer at 70, 000 but las owner did some maintenance. So plan to use synthetic 85/140 any thoughts or choice better let me know thanks.

The thicker 85/140 gear oil is a good idea for older vehicle. Syn is OK, but if you go wading then you'ld be changing it and that can run into some money.

I don't plan on doing to much wading for now figured better idea to get all things in good order before damaging any part that hasn't been looked over. They didn't have the 85/140 so went with 75/140 and yes very pricey at 13.00 $ per quart.so sure change to cheaper once I get more into. Next is transmission fluild , which fluid should be ran in tranny?, and bleed brake system and just like many others amigos. Figured first clean brakes dust and dirt from area and see if any changes.
Thanks

Dexron III, and do filter as well, read the shop manual on how to check the fluid level, no dip stick.

FYI for others. Valvoline makes a synblend in 85/140. I just bought that tonight. May be a reasonable compromise.

Was able change front and rear axle last night and was glad to see it look fresh and just a little build up on magnets. Will try to do t/case tonight. On transmission I would guess autozone or one of those places could get filter for. If not where or who is good supplier for parts. Also would like to replace the plastic fill plugs where could those be found at. Thanks for help.

The parts stores will also carry a handy pump that screws into the oil jug.....

Filters are widely available. On line places are also there, from Rovers North, Atlantic British, and a host of others.

Metal plugs are available, they are not standard plumbing thread.
