Default Battery relocation

Looking underhood, noticed if battery and jack stowage was relocated to back, there would be a decent spot open to place a fan-equipped engine oil cooler and the battery would be away from the hostile underhood heat to live a longer life My Porsche 928 has rear batt and I converted my Z28 to rear-typically get 10-12yrs of battery life with those.

Seems like a lot of effort, for little gain. Also, if you ever decide to install a front winch...you'll be running extra cables back again. Plus, you'd have to create a "jump post" like the 928 has...or you'll be digging for the battery compartment, whenever you run it dead. And, l believe there is less bouncing around up front. You steer to avoid a pothole/bump with your front tires...only to be hit with your rears.

Just some thoughts on the idea.

Brian.

Can I ask why?

-to provide a nice oil cooler location-if I decide to add one, that will depend on what oil temps I find the engine runs once the engine repair is completed(head gaskets,valvetrain,ETC- the late disco usuall )-if it gets over 250 often under adverse conditions, will install the cooler to keep the oil ~230* do not want to over cool the oil either or the additives may not work as well-important with our flat tappet cams-not to mention evaporating off any moisture in the oil.Added cooler to my Z28 after I discovered oil was getting up around 290 under certain conditions..If a winch was installed-don't plan to-the voltage drop of the cables to the rear would need to be considered...In my Z28,the rear batt is very handy to get to,but in the 928,sits in a little hatched well under the spare tire under the rear carpet If I decide to relocate the batt in the disco, one of the rear storage compartments will be investigated to see how much space is avalible behind the inner wall...

290?? Wow. That's way too high. My oil temp is ~170. If I'm climbing a steep grade for awhile to gets to 205 max.

I dont think the oil in a rover gets anywhere near that.

Many of us have over 200,000mi with no issues with oil.

the issue with the oil pump is a design flaw that has nothing to do with temp.

even our transmissions are usually trouble free.

idk why you would waste the time for such a small benefit.

I'll se what oil temps run once back in operation.I did notice reports of transmission problems are pretty rare-yay Another location for oil cooler I have considered if I decide to add one is on the back side of the radiator-will have heated air going through it,but oil will be much hotter and still cool well-thermostat added plumbing to prevent ovecooling .No wiring, fan or battery relocation needed-real easy The other method with fan would be pretty easy too.-that is the setup installed in the z28-control the fan to regulate temp, works great.

a number of years came with an oil cooler as standard equipment. if you're so concerned about it, why not install one of them if you don't already have one?
