Blowing Fuse
Hello all. I am having trouble with blowing a fuse. The truck keeps blowing the cigarette lighter fuse. I don't smoke but I use that receptacle for my GPS. Originally I think it was a 15A, at one point I put a 30A in there and it blew that as well. Is this common? Is there something I can look at to see what is causing this?
1. The solutuion is not to put in a larger fuse to supply more energy. Like searching for a burning smell by spraying gasoline.
2. That fuse would be FUSE 15 inside the truck. It is speced for 20 amp. If a 20 blows, there is more on that circuit than just the lighter. Like seat heaters and vanity mirror light which show up on the RAVE wiring diagrams.

I figure that the dealer would be glad to change them all for you. See attached, pix of seat fuses (they handle the motors), page from owner's manual (which shows I missed a light somewhere), and schematics of the the cigar lighter, seat heater circuit, and vanity mirrors. The RAVE makes you look in multiple places for the same thing. (RAVE = Rovers Aren't Very Easy)
A distinct possibility. If you download the RAVE set of manuals, there is a circuits manual that will show a color coded wiring plan, and an electrical library that hase a picture of about every connector, so you can see where they are, etc.
My driver seat blows the fuse when I try to recline it. I solved it by no longer reclining. I've been to busy to chase that rabbit. However I have thought about rewiring it so it is a constant on and Idont have to have the truck on to run accessories.
My 95 disco does the same thing. I also don't smoke and only use it for my gps. since my rover doesn't have heated seats, I've gone threw 3 20 amp fuses and now I've just kinda given up.
Well, the rest of the fuses are content to hang onto life and not go out in a ball of fire. So perhaps one path would be to remove the problem area fuse, connect an amp meter in place of it, so you can see exactly how many amps are passing that way. Let's say you get 12 amps. And cigar lighter is not plugged in. Start disconnecting things to find what is making the draw. Get out you test light. Now D1 and D2 have different wiring harness, so be sure to look it up in your own personal copy of the RAVE that you have studied until the screen grows dim on the laptop.
"I keep putting in a fuse and it keeps blowing." Yep, it is blowing a whistle trying to get your attention.
